Mare Santo is born in the green hills of Collio, where Mediterranean air meets Alpine wind.
This contrast shapes grapes with depth and freshness — the foundation of every Mare Santo sparkling wine.
The vines grow on mineral-rich soil, guided by climate and time.
We harvest by hand, using authentic techniques passed down through generations in our small private cellar, where precision and care matter more than volume.
This is the home of Ribolla Gialla — locally Rebula — a variety rooted in Roman history and praised by poets and emperors.
Boccaccio even listed Ribolla among the reasons “God invented the sin of gluttony.”
Ribolla is the soul of Mare Santo Cuvée Prestige, blended with Chardonnay for structure, tension, and quiet elegance — the backbone of our sea-aged sparkling wine.

We do not mass-produce.
Every grape is hand-selected, and only the finest enter the bottle.
Then comes the defining step: the wines rest 20 meters below the Adriatic Sea for 12–24 months.

The sea: inspiration& innovation
Why the Sea?
Slovenian winemaker Igor Tomažič revived an old tradition — cooling bottles in streams.
The forgotten bottles tasted better.
So he asked a simple question: what if the sea could age wine?
That question shaped Mare Santo.
Underwater currents keep the wine alive.
Minerals pass subtly through the cork.
Flavors gain depth that defines our signature sparkling wine.

The grapes
From the Hills of Goriška Brda
Cuvée Prestige blends Rebula (structure) and Chardonnay (softness).
Rosé uses only Pinot Noir, hand-picked from select vineyards.
Each variety gains new character once transformed into sea-aged sparkling wine.
